Orange County GOP Champions HB-1
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 1 (CS/HB 1: SCHOOL CHOICE) AND EDUCATIONAL ALTERANTIVES
Orlando, FL– On February 23, 2023, the Republican Party of Orange County passed a resolution supporting House Bill 1 for School Choice.
The Orange County GOP is supportive of legislation that improves education in the State of Florida. Alicia Farrant, the newly elected District 3 OCPS School Board member, spoke at the meeting to support this bill. Farrant explained the bill gives opportunities to parents to direct their children’s education, and it allows funding to follow the students to the school of their choice.
Orange GOP Precinct Committeeman Demensio Barton, former candidate for School Board Chair, introduced the resolution at the Thursday meeting stating, “When you are where we are in this nation, it is no longer the time to say let’s punt it and let someone else run the ball [of education].”
Newly elected Orange County GOP Chairman Erin Huntley said “Expanding choices for parents to direct their children’s education is a top priority in Orange County. Education savings accounts will give parents the freedom to choose learning opportunities that best fit the needs of their child. We are thrilled that Orange County legislators, Rep. Susan Plasencia and Rep. Carolina Amesty, are leading this historic effort.”
Rep. Susan Plasencia said “I am proud to be the prime co-sponsor of HB 1, and I am excited to be part of the driving force behind expanding school choice and educational opportunities for many Floridians. This is an issue that has touched my family, as well as the lives of many families across the state. Our main message is this: Your Kids, Your Choice.”
Many Orange County residents and Orange County GOP members have made the trip to Tallahassee to show their support for the bill.
The Orange County GOP will continue to highlight the Governor’s prized initiatives that have broad appeal with the Orange County residents.
